@SenileOtaku,

I hear your frustration. It sounds like a tough setup, especially on a headless system.

Have you tried manually setting the session in `~/.xsession` or `~/.xinitrc`? Also, for x2go, XFCE usually works best.

Let me know if you need more suggestions…

I need to find SOME environment x2go won’t fail on, since I need a GUI I can occasionally run on a headless server.

Why is it that more and more things are becoming broken on Linux, things that used to work in the past? I can’t set the values at the GUI/X11 login screen because, as I said, it’s a HEADLESS system.

Tested the same thing with an Ubuntu VM, and ALL the remote desktop options are broken. I’ve wasted hours of trying to make this work. I can’t just export an app to my local system, because a couple of thew ones I need won’t see the remote directories even though I’m running it on the remote system.

Hi Evan,

It’s free for up to three 90-day certificates, and then you have to pay. What they really missed is freeSSL.org, where you get unlimited 90-day certificates.

Cheers,

Comment on Emacs 30.1 Released: New Features, Installation, and Usage Guide by Brian Masinick https://www.tecmint.com/emacs-text-editor/comment-page-1/#comment-2284650 Fri, 07 Mar 2025 19:44:47 +0000 https://www.tecmint.com/?p=55505#comment-2284650 For those who would like a different interface – that is, something that uses something other than the Ctrl or Esc key for the commands, there are multiple options.

There are already some "vi" modes available in the standard Emacs; I know that vim-mode and viper-mode have been available at various times in the history of GNU Emacs.

There are three or four major add-ons to GNU Emacs that will completely change both the appearance and the default key mappings, while not eliminating them altogether for those who may want to use them on occasion or go back and forth. Doom Emacs is one very popular option; Spacemacs is one I’ve been using recently, and as I mentioned, there are others, which interested individuals can explore for themselves.
